Tonsil & Adenoids
Tonsil & Adenoids
Tonsils are two small, oval-shaped glands located at the back of the throat that help fight infections by trapping bacteria and viruses entering through the mouth and nose. Adenoids are similar lymphatic tissue located at the back of the nasal cavity, above the roof of the mouth. Both play a role in the immune system, particularly in young children, but can sometimes become enlarged or infected, leading to conditions such as tonsillitis or adenoiditis, which may require medical treatment or removal.
Some Conditions of Tonsil & Adenoids:
Tonsillitis: A common bacterial or viral infection, leading to symptoms like sore throat, difficulty swallowing, fever and swollen glands.
Adenoiditis: Infection of the adenoids that may cause nasal congestion, then difficulty in breathing, snoring and infections in the ear.
Enlarged Tonsils and Adenoids: It causes breathing difficulties, sleep disorder, chronic ear infections or trouble swallowing in childrens.
Sleep Apnea: Enlarged tonsils and adenoids may block the airway during sleep, leading to disrupted breathing, snoring & poor sleep quality.
Chronic Infections: Frequent infections of tonsils and adenoids, sometimes requires surgical removal (tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy).
